Working with existing buildings always presents questions: What’s structurally sound? What gets in the way of accessibility or modern care?
At Brookmere Barns, the site came with several older structures, each in a different state of disrepair. Rather than take a black-and-white approach to retention or demolition, we assessed each building in context. Could it serve a future purpose? Would it restrict movement, access, or thermal performance? Did it hold architectural or historical value worth preserving?
For us, the goal was clear: prioritise what the future of the site needed to be, while respecting the rural setting and its character.
Some buildings were retained and adapted. Others were carefully removed to allow for better circulation, daylight, and care access. The result is a site that feels rooted in its place, but fully aligned with the client's present and future needs.
For deputies and solicitors managing sites with existing structures, this kind of analysis is crucial. It ensures that investment isn’t wasted preserving what no longer serves, but that nothing valuable is lost unnecessarily either.
At Arkhi Care, we bring both a technical and sensitive approach to managing complex sites, ensuring each one becomes more than just accessible, but truly well considered.
